ABOUT ME - KIERAN

Having played sports my entire life, I grew up believing I couldn’t get much stronger, fitter, or faster. It wasn't until I studied to become a running coach that I questioned what I had been doing up until this point. I started running in 2020 during the pandemic and quickly learned that with dedication, anything is possible. The belief that only some people can reach an elite level has changed into a mindset where I know we can achieve anything we set our mind to. If you want to find out what you’re capable of achieving, let’s work together.

I moved to London in 2023 to join the amazing running community here. Before this, I lived in both Toronto and Lisbon, where I got involved with different run clubs. It was through these clubs that I caught the running bug and fell in love with this community.

As the newest coach at Best Athletics, I’m very excited to help others on their running journeys.

Coaching Experience:

I have experience racing all distances from the mile to the marathon, but my full focus is on the 5k for now. With a personal best of 16:55, my goal is to bring this time down as much as possible before tackling the longer distances again!

Over the past two years, I’ve coached over 20 athletes, from those wanting to hit new 5k PBs to running their first marathon.

What to expect from me as your coach:

  • Transparency: I will communicate efficiently and be honest with feedback.

  • Data-driven: I will use data to tailor your training effectively.

  • Proper periodisation: I will work with you to ensure that you are peaking for your races at the right time.

  • Training in the right zones: I will ensure that you are getting everything out of your training by working in the right zones.

  • Science based: Using science and evidence based methods, we will train your body to the specific physiological demands of your goal races.

Coaching principles:

Collaboration is key:

I believe that coaching is a partnership. Your feedback is essential for building a plan that works for you. I’m here to listen to your ideas and concerns.

Individuality matters:

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to running. I have experienced that different athletes respond better to different things such as higher mileage, more threshold or increased race-specific work. I will truly personalise your training plan, taking into account your training history, individual strengths and weaknesses.

Strength and Conditioning (S&C):

Incorporating S&C and mobility into your training is crucial for both maximising your performance and staying injury free. I understand that not everyone loves doing S&C and so I will work with you to build a plan that suits you.

Balance:

Life extends beyond running. It’s so important to strike a balance between training and other commitments, whether it’s work, family, or other interests. Over the last two years I have worked with a wide range of athletes - including nurses, doctors, and even a pilot - so I am used to navigating unique schedules. We’ll ensure that running enhances your life, rather than overwhelming it.

Food is fuel:

Food not only helps you to recover, but it gives you the energy that you need to perform at your best. The better the fuel, the better you will feel. While I'm not a nutritionist, I can guide you to resources for eating well and building an effective race day nutrition plan.

The most important session is tomorrow’s:

This principle is all about managing your training load. Pushing too much, too often can lead to injury or burnout. Consistency is crucial for success in running and so, we will work together to ensure there is nothing stopping you from getting to your next run. We will combine all of the above principles to ensure you are fuelling right, recovering right, running right and feeling right so that you can keep showing up day after day!

What are you waiting for? Let’s get to work!
